In the 1930's, King County Assessor records were compiled in longhand on 4x6 inch cards with revisions, cross-outs and no photographs. Even at the time, the cards were described as "obsolete and replete with errors, admittedly unsatisfactory." Over the next 40 years, appraisers took more than two million photographs to document properties.
