We know it can be a challenge to find parking at popular park & ride lots. To make your commute easier, Metro Transit will set aside priority spaces for carpoolers with free permits. Spaces will be reserved for permit holders arriving until 8:30am weekdays at select park & ride lots.
How it works
Groups of two or more commuters who regularly drive together to participating park & rides to catch transit, meet a vanpool, or another carpool are eligible to apply for carpool parking permits. Permits are free and allow permit holders to park in designated permit parking areas on weekdays during the morning rush hour.
Applicants must provide basic contact information and ORCA card numbers, Vanpool ID, or RideshareOnline.com email account for each member of a carpool. Regular transit ridership is not required for initial issue of a permit, but once a permit is issued ORCA numbers, Vanpool, or RideshareOnline.com will be checked to verify regular transit ridership. At least two carpool members must average three days of ridership per week (12 days per month) to qualify for monthly permit renewals.

Need an interpreter?
If you require an interpreter, please call 206-553-3000 and select the interpreter option (Press 1) from the menu when prompted. Please let the Metro representative know which language is needed. It will take a moment but an interpreter, in the requested language, will join the call. Nearly 200 languages are covered by the translation line. Please note that interpreter calls may take longer.

These lots are managed by Metro and are regularly 90% or more full by early in the morning on weekdays.
Areas reserved for permits will start small and expand if demand for permits grows. No more than 50% of each lot will be permitted.
Stalls that are not marked for permits will be available first-come, first-served for any driver using transit. After 8:30, carpool permit spaces also will be available to any driver using transit.
Enforcement will begin on February 1st, 2017 during a.m. rush hours between 4am to 8:30am. After 8:30 am and on weekends, permit spaces become available to everyone.
The program provides two months each calendar year in which a permit group may go below the required ridership due to a vacation.
- Eastgate P&R: 4th floor of the garage, near the pedestrian bridge
- Issaquah Highlands P&R: 1st floor of the garage, west side (closest to 9th Ave NE)
- Northgate TC: In the East lot, the row closest to the boarding area
- Redmond TC: 1st floor of the garage, to the left of the entrance
- South Kirkland P&R: 1st floor of the garage, middle row
- South Renton P&R: In the parking spots immediately behind the boarding islands
If enforcement staff find a violation of the carpool permit parking rules and regulations they will issue a warning. Warnings do not have a monetary fine that needs to be paid. If the same vehicle receives two warnings for the same violation, the third will result in a tow. There is an appeals process if you feel you have received an unwarranted warning notice or tow.
