Partnership in Democracy

Youth with a Vision is aimed at high school students and civic classes. Participants are encouraged to collaborate with their peers to staff portions of polling locations on Election Day.

The money earned can be used as a fundraising effort, or hours can be used towards required community service hours. Shifts last the full day, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., with a one-hour lunch and two breaks.

How does the student benefit?

• Gain valuable life experience and an opportunity to enhance your college resume.
• It demonstrates commitment and personal responsibility by supporting elections in a politically neutral way.
• A unique opportunity to fundraise or earn needed community service hours while serving as poll workers on Election Day.

How can teachers help?

• Incorporate serving at the polls into your curriculum and follow up with your students about their Election Day experience.
• Nominate eligible qualified students to serve as part of a team of poll workers.

Eligibility requirements

• Able to work a 16-hour day in a busy and stressful environment
• At least 16 years old by Election Day
• Able to read, write and speak English
• Attend a three-hour training class prior to Election Day
• Able to lift up to 30 lbs.
• Responsible for your own transportation
• High school students must have their parent's permission and a teacher's recommendation to participate.

Roles and Responsibilities

Every election, King County Elections provides an opportunity for individuals to participate in their government by conducting accurate, secure and accessible elections by serving as an Election Day poll worker. These positions are ideal for anyone who is computer savvy, customer friendly and detail oriented.
