The return envelope

King County votes entirely by mail. Ballots are mailed to voters 20 days prior to each election in which they are eligible to vote. If you would like to make other arrangements to vote in the current election, call King County Elections at 206-296-VOTE (8683).

Replacement envelopes are not available.

Download a replacement envelope

If you have misplaced or have a damaged ballot return envelope, please download an envelope replacement packet ; follow the instructions to return your ballot. This packet does NOT contain a ballot.

Why the return envelope is important

The return envelope contains a voter declaration that you must sign for your vote to be counted.

Your signature is critical for your vote to be processed. The signature on your return envelope must match the signature on file with your voter registration. Your ballot cannot be opened and processed until the signature is matched, or "verified."

If your ballot has a signature issue, King County Elections will attempt to contact you by phone and mail. Please follow the instructions and reply promptly.

What to do if your ballot return envelope is sealed shut

Sometimes due to moisture the envelope will arrive partly sealed shut. The envelope can still be used to return your ballot. Carefully open the envelope or, if needed, slit the envelope open on the top. Use a small amount of tape to reseal the envelope. If your envelope is damaged, you can download a replacement envelope.
