King County GIS Data Distribution

There are two primary methods for acquiring King County GIS Data:

Download data from the KCGIS Data Portal
Go to the KCGIS Data Portal Many King County GIS layers can be found in the KCGIS Data Portal. These layers are available for download at no cost. Available formats are ESRI file geodatabase, shapefile, and KML. (Most of the data layers that were formerly available on the KCGIS Standard Data discs, which ceased publication following the January 2011 edition, can now be downloaded.)
Order custom GIS data and imagery products
How to Order Custom Data Custom data and imagery requests are fulfilled by KCGIS Center Client Services staff. Your data request will be reviewed carefully, and a custom data set will be defined to best meet your needs. Several delivery options are available. Minimum cost is $305.00.

    Download real-property information extracts from the King County Department of Assessments.

    Go here to download Metro's General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) dataset.
  • King County open data website
    This site provides search-and-browse access to a broad range of machine readable datasets from various departments in King County government.

How to Order Custom GIS Data and Imagery

Payment: We'll arrange payment methods when you contact us. We cannot perform credit card transactions.

Procedure:

  1. E-mail us with a detailed description of your data needs, or contact Cheryl Wilder (206-263-5220) to describe your request.
  2. We will confirm your request, including a cost calculation.
  3. Write a check for this amount (payable to King County Finance Department).
  4. Download, print, and fill out a Custom Data Request form
  5. Mail the form and your check to the mailing address provided on the form.
  6. Work will commence upon receipt of your payment.

Data Delivery Options

  • E-mail attachment of data file(s)
  • FTP download
  • CD or DVD
    — mailed to you, or...
    — held for pick up by you here at the KCGIS Center

Indicate your preference on the order form. In-person pick-up requires 24-hour notice.

Turn-Around Time

Most custom data requests can be completed within seven to ten working days.
