Story

This week, the King County Council passed a supplemental budget, which invested in a variety of County and community programs and services. As part of the supplemental budget, Councilmember Claudia Balducci awarded Get Active Stay Active grants to 19 youth and amateur sports organizations in King County Council District 6. Get Active Stay Active funds are available on a biennial basis.

“To me, a healthy community means people have access to things that contribute to their well-being, like arts, culture, nature, and physical activity,” said Councilmember Balducci. “By investing in these great community organizations, the King County Council is helping to provide opportunities to get outdoors, move and be healthy.”

Councilmember Balducci’s 2019-2020 Get Active Stay Active grants support 19 youth, senior, housing, and cultural organizations across District 6, including:

  • Bellevue: Bellevue College, City of Bellevue, Downtown Action to Save Housing, India Association of Western Washington, Newport Sammamish Interlake Girls Lacrosse Program, Rainier Athletes, Sammamish Interlake Lacrosse Club, WheelLab
  • Kirkland: City of Kirkland, Imagine Housing, Kirkland American Little League, Old Friends Club, Tennis Outreach Programs, UPower
  • Mercer Island: Mercer Island High School, Mercer Island Parks and Recreation, Stroum Jewish Community Center
  • Redmond: Lake Washington Youth Soccer Association, Redmond Senior Center

Get Active Stay Active is a two-year grant awarded by Councilmember Balducci’s office for organizations that provide youth and amateur sports and fitness programs. The funding is collected by King County through a tax on rental car rentals and is also used to finance public sports stadium facilities. Local government agencies and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that serve King County Council District 6 are eligible to apply.
