Summary

The council is holding the meeting in Renton to make it easier for local residents to attend the meeting and share their perspective on the landfill’s future.

Story

The Metropolitan King County Council will host a special meeting in the community near the Cedar Hills Regional Landfill to hear from area residents on the potential expansion of the solid waste facility:

Wednesday, March 20
10:30 a.m.
New Life Church, North Auditorium,
15711 152nd Ave SE, Renton, WA

The council is holding the meeting in Renton to make it easier for local residents to attend the meeting and share their perspective on the landfill’s future.

“Many people who live near the landfill have shared with me the hardships caused by the operation of the Cedar Hills Landfill,” said Council Vice Chair Reagan Dunn, whose district includes the location of the landfill. “I pushed for the full County Council to hold a meeting in a location that is local to the landfill because I believe it is only fair to give these folks a chance to be heard before the Solid Waste Comprehensive Plan goes to vote.”

The expansion of the landfill is a key aspect of the draft Solid Waste Comprehensive Plan, which will be voted on by the Council later this spring. If approved, the Solid Waste Comprehensive Plan would extend the operations of the landfill for up to 20 years.

More information about the draft Solid Waste Comprehensive Plan can be found at the King County Solid Waste Division website.
