Middle Fork Snoqualmie River flood risk reduction meeting February 25 in North Bend

Summary

Flood hazards on the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River and the projects proposed to reduce associated flood risks will be the focus of a public meeting hosted by King County Flood Control District on Feb. 25, in North Bend.

Story

Middle Fork Snoqualmie River-area residents are invited to a community discussion about flood risk reduction along the lower four miles of the river on Feb. 25, in North Bend.

Set for 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Mt. Si Senior Center, 411 Main Ave. S, the meeting will include a presentation about current flood and erosion conditions along the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River as well as proposed actions to reduce risks from flooding.

Flood District Supervisor Kathy Lambert and King County staff will be on-hand to listen to community members’ remarks on possible solutions to flood risks and to answer questions.

It has been a little over a year since King County flood-risk reduction experts met with the community to discuss the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River Corridor Plan – a planning process to develop a strategy with specific recommendations aimed at reducing those risks, such as road and bridge alterations, channel monitoring, levee modifications, and acquiring at-risk floodplain properties from willing sellers.

Flood District and King County staff used community members’ suggestions to develop a draft Capital Investment Strategy for minimizing flood risks along the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River. The Feb. 25 meeting is an opportunity for community members to review that strategy and offer comments on proposed solutions and project sequencing.
