King County crews activate generator after utility power outage at East Pine Street Pump Station in Madrona

Summary

King County Wastewater crews responded to a power outage at the East Pine Street Pump Station in Madrona that shut down equipment and caused an overflow into Lake Washington today. Workers started the emergency generator and the pump station is back online.

Story

King County Wastewater Treatment Division workers quickly brought emergency power online when utility power failed at the East Pine Pump Station and the pumps shut down, causing an overflow near Madrona Beach Monday afternoon.

Crews brought the pump station at 1600 Lake Washington Blvd. E. back online. It is now performing properly. The staff will determine why the generator failed to turn on automatically.

King County notified appropriate health and regulatory agencies and staff will monitor water quality. Staff have also posted beach closure signs between Madrona Beach and Howell Park, warning people to avoid contact with the water over the next several days as a precaution.
