Stryo Recycle your Styrofoam

styrofoam recycle

Styro Recycle LLC works to provide the community and businesses with options for removing EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) from the waste stream.  Stryrofoam is petroleum based, toxic when burned, and lacks a known microorganism that will break it down.  Styro Recycle set out to find alternative, inexpensive ways for the public and businesses to divert this foam from our landfills, working with companies that have the technology to recycle it.  The result is an affordable and convenient way to prevent waste in the environment.

After you drop off your stryofoam, the machines at Styro Recycle grind it up, extrude it out, and form it into blocks for easier transport.  Once they produce 40,000/lbs of processed EPS material, manufacturers purchase it, and turn it into plastic products.  The styrofoam gets made into many items, including picture frames, outlet covers, crown molding and electronic cases.  Here's a short video with Styro Recycle's owner, showing the operation.

Tool Library

Take a Trip to the Tool Library - Save Your Shelf Space

The King County EcoConsumer public outreach program has supported tool library projects for several years.  These spaces allow community members to borrow tools, so you don't have to buy them!

Tool libraries currently operating in King County outside Seattle are the Vashon Tool Library and the Fall City Community Tool Library.

The South King Tool Library, currently expected to open in 2017, will be the newest and largest tool library in King County outside Seattle! It will be located in unincorporated King County between Federal Way and Auburn. The project has already co-sponsored repair events in that area.

For more info on tool libraries, check out the EcoConsumer website.
