Waste reduction and recycling (level one)
- Auburn Mountainview High School maintained a recycling rate of 87 percent.
- The school used compostable serving ware and utensils in the lunchroom.
- A share table was created for unwanted, unopened food items.
- Teacher Jennie Buetow created opportunities for student volunteers to earn volunteer hours by monitoring lunch room recycling stations.
- Custodians monitored waste bins to prevent and remove contamination.
- Students created 3-D posters to educate other students and staff on correct waste sorting.
- The student Green Team collaborated with the Visual Communications class to make a recycling music video, which included two recycling raps written by school custodians.
- To reduce paper use, all printers were set to print double-sided by default.
