Kent Airport levee repair

Project Overview

The Kent Airport levee is in the City of Kent on the left (south) bank of the Green River across from Foster Park. The levee was damaged during a flood in 2020, making the riverbank steeper and less stable.

King County, as service provider to the King County Flood Control District, is planning to repair the levee in the summer of 2024. Repair and maintenance of the levee reduces flood risks to local utilities, including a wastewater pump station, and nearby businesses.

What is a levee?

A levee is a structure built along a riverbank to prevent erosion and reduce the risk of flooding.

Project goals

  • Reduce flood risks to people and property.
