WIC is a supplemental food program for clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding/chestfeeding, infants and children.

  • WIC provides health screenings, nutrition and health education, and help getting other services
  • Experts help with breastfeeding/chestfeeding
  • Clients receive monthly benefits to buy nutritious foods.

First Steps is a two-part program offered by Public Health — Seattle & King County that helps individuals who are pregnant during and after their pregnancy (miscarriage, termination, or childbirth), and helps parents raise healthy babies.

  • It includes Maternity Support Services (MSS) and Infant Case Management (ICM).
  • Working with your MSS care team, you'll receive health education and counseling during your pregnancy and two months after your pregnancy ends (miscarriage, termination, or childbirth).
  • ICM helps parents of infants learn about and use medical, social, educational, and other resources to help infants thrive. Additional details about MSS and ICM can be found at: www.kingcounty.gov/mss
