Kent man charged after allegedly pointing loaded gun at woman

The incident occurred at a Federal Way apartment complex on March 27.

A Kent man is facing charges after allegedly pointing a loaded gun at a woman in the parking lot of a Federal Way apartment complex on Sunday, March 27, three days after he was released from prison.

Blake Kirvin, 31, was charged with felony assault and unlawful possession of a firearm in King County Superior Court on Thursday, March 31. He was released after his first court appearance.

Kirvin’s arraignment is scheduled for April 11 at the King County Courthouse in Seattle.

Kirvin is prohibited from using or possessing firearms due to a previous organized retail theft conviction, charging documents state, and was released from prison days prior to the March 27 assault.

Kirvin’s 2010 unlawful gun possession case had the 2008 drug possession case as a predicate felony, said Casey McNerthney, spokesperson for the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

“When that 2008 drug possession case was vacated after the Blake decision, his 2010 unlawful gun possession case no longer had a valid predicate felony and also was dismissed, following the Blake decision,” McNerthney said.

At about 3:30 p.m. March 27, a 29-year-old woman reported that she was walking in the Crestview West Apartments complex parking lot, 27912 Pacific Highway S., in Federal Way, when she witnessed two people arguing in a gold Chevy Tahoe, charging documents state.

A female passenger reportedly exited the vehicle and stood near the woman, then Kirvin allegedly lifted a handgun from his lap and pointed it directly at the woman, documents state. Three children were in the backseat of the car.

The woman then ran away and called police, stated she thought her “life was going to be taken,” according to charging documents.

As officers arrived on scene, Kirvin exited the vehicle. Officers gave commands, but Kirvin was “fumbling around his waist,” leaned into the vehicle’s rear side door and then complied with the officer’s orders, documents state.

After he was detained, officers saw two handguns in the backseat where the children had been sitting, documents state.

The female passenger, who is the registered owner of the Tahoe, denied officers access to search the vehicle. Later, officers obtained a search warrant and found two semi-automatic handguns and a backpack in the car. Inside the backpack, police found about 118 grams of marijuana, 12 grams of cocaine, 190 amphetamine tablets and a small scale.
