Bicyclist killed during race

Summary

(Southeast King County) an Oregon man was killed Saturday morning during a bicycle race near Flaming Geyser State Park. The man was southbound on 218 Ave SE when he hit a guardrail. He was transported to Harborview where he later died of his injuries. (C16015504)

Story

Saturday morning around 9:30 Sheriff’s deputies responded to a bicycle accident in the area of SE Green Valley Pkwy and 218th Ave SE.  A 29 year old Albany, Oregon man was riding his bicycle as part of a group participating in an organized race. The man was riding southbound, downhill on 218th Ave SE about .5 miles north of the Green Valley Rd.  The rider lost control of the bicycle and collided with a guardrail.  He received critical injuries during the collision.  He was taken to Harborview Hospital where he later died.  King County Sheriff’s Office Major Accident and Reconstruction Unit responded and are investigating the accident.
