Arrest Made in Fairwood Shooting

A 20yoa Maple Valley man has been booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Assault 1 after he turned himself in to King County Sheriff’s Detectives for a shooting that occurred in the Fairwood area of Renton on May 16th, 2016. The victim, a 21yoa, Kent resident, was shot one time in the arm.

On May 16, 2016, at around 7pm, King County Sheriff 911 communications received multiple calls of a shooting that had just occurred in a shopping complex parking lot, near SE 140th and Petrovitsky, in the Fairwood area of unincorporated Renton.

When Deputies arrived minutes later, they found a 21yoa Kent man whom had been shot once in his right bicep.  The victim, as well as multiple witnesses to the shooting, were able to give KCSO Deputies a description of the suspect, who was seen running from the area shortly after the shooting.  Some witnesses that were still on scene, were even able to provide Deputies with a possible suspect name.  Deputies and K9 units searched the area for a suspect at the time but did not locate one.

King County Sheriff Major Crimes Detectives interviewed multiple witnesses and recovered evidence that corroborated what witnesses were telling them and Deputies about the suspect.   During their investigation, Detectives learned that there had been a disagreement between the suspect and victim inside a nearby gym.  After the two left the gym, the suspect confronted the victim near the victim’s car.  During what started out as a verbal confrontation between the two, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired one round at the victim, striking him in the arm.  Detectives believe that the suspect attempted to fire more rounds but the gun jammed for unknown reasons.

On May 17th, 2016, Detectives received a phone call from the suspect’s attorney saying that he wanted to turn himself in.  Detectives met the suspect and his attorney near the scene of the shooting.  The suspect did not provide a statement to Detectives, but he did lead them to a backpack containing a gun, not far from the shooting location.  It is believed the suspect ran from the scene and hid the gun and backpack in that location.

The suspect, a 20yoa Maple Valley man, was booked into the King County Jail later on the 17th, for investigation of Assault 1st degree.

The victim has been released from the hospital and is recovering from a gunshot wound to his right bicep.
