Memorial Day - A long legacy of honoring our fallen servicemen and women
May 26, 2014

Each year on Memorial Day, we pause as a grateful nation to honor those servicemen and women who have fallen in the line of duty, fighting to preserve freedoms here at home and around the world.

At 3 p.m. this Monday, May 26, I invite you to join me in the National Moment of Remembrance, pausing to reflect on the extraordinary contributions of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. It is also a time to acknowledge the service of the 3,000 active duty personnel and 127,000 veterans who live in King County.

I am grateful that we have a long legacy of honoring the service of our returning military personnel with a range of programs – many through the voter-approved Veterans Levy and our Regional Veterans Initiative, which is improving coordination and access to services they have earned.

Our gratitude to those we have lost moves us to act every day in the interest of their brothers and sisters in arms who were able to return home. It is our duty to ensure they receive the services and supports they need to transition successfully to civilian life.

Thank you,
