Committee presentation guidelines
Please follow these guidelines for successful presentations at King County Council committee meetings.
Presentation formatting to meet accessibility requirements
The Council must comply with requirements of the federal Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1 AA) and requires presenters to use a template that is WCAG-compliant. Please download one of the WCAG-compliant templates below.
Tips to ensure your presentation is accessible
- Each slide should have a unique title.
- Use as few words as possible. We suggest 300 characters or 50 words on a full-width text column. For a two-column slide, keep it to 150 characters or 25 words per column.
- Use bullets rather than long sentences.
- Use built-in styling in the toolbar for bullets and numbered lists, etc.
- Keep the heading style on headings and the body style on body text.
- Add Alt Text for images to describe pertinent information for people who are visually impaired.
Unique zoom invitations
- Webinar panelist invitations are specific to the invitee and should not be forwarded.
- You may wish to join the meeting five minutes prior to its start to ensure that you have the appropriate Zoom permissions and your audio and video are working.
Deadline to provide presentations
Please provide your materials one week in advance of your presentation in committee so the materials may be provided to committee members.
Presenting during the meeting in person
- Council Chambers is a television production studio with a sensitive audio system.
- If you plan to attend the committee meeting in person in the Council Chambers, please note the following protocols, which are necessary to prevent equipment failures during the meeting while presenting PowerPoints. Note: If a presentation requires audio, only Option 1 may be used.
- Option 1 (preferred): Please ask a colleague to log into the Zoom meeting to run the PowerPoint presentation remotely from a location other than the Council Chambers. Your colleague will need a panelist invitation. Please provide your colleague’s name and email address to the committee lead and committee assistant at least one business day in advance of the meeting.
- Option 2: Bring your own laptop into the Chambers and ensure your audio settings are disabled during the meeting. You will need to log in to the Zoom as a panelist and share your screen when it is your turn to present. Your laptop will cause feedback if your audio is not disabled.
