King County Councilmembers Dunn, Quinn deliver $5,000 grant to Family First Community Center

March 5, 2025

King County Councilmembers Reagan Dunn and De’Sean Quinn on Monday presented a $5,000 check to the Family First Community Center. This grant was funded through King County’s Veterans, Seniors, and Human Services Levy (VSHSL) grant program.

“The Family First Community Center is an incredible asset to the Renton community, working to help all families, kids, and seniors thrive,” Dunn said. “I am proud to continue to support their incredible work!”

In 2017, Dunn and former King County Councilmember Dave Upthegrove also secured $75,000 in seed funding to help launch the Family First Community Center.

“Family First provides programs for all-ages, from toddlers to teens to adults and seniors,” Quinn said. “It is dedicated to providing an intergenerational, positive, supportive environment that promotes wellness in our community. Family First model programming makes King County a great place to live.”

Founded by former Seattle Seahawks football player Doug Baldwin Jr., the Family First Community Center is dedicated to empowering individuals and strengthening community bonds. Inspired by Doug’s passion for serving others, the center offers a wide range of programs and resources to foster personal growth, promote wellness, and cultivate meaningful connections.

“The Family First Community Center is grateful for the continued support from the King County Council,” said Executive Director Jackie Montgomery. “Public funding is essential to our vital work, helping us drive to sustain our free, membership-based model. This support reduces barriers to access and fosters a vibrant, inclusive community where everyone can thrive.”

King County’s Veterans, Seniors, and Human Services Levy (VSHSL) expands access to critical human services to improve overall health and well-being, create thriving communities, and reduce disparities throughout King County. The VSHSL provides funding and partners with organizations that offer programs and services to help King County residents achieve housing and financial stability, become more socially connected and engaged, increase health and wellness, and access systems and services that support their individual needs.
