Fain helps secure key South King County transit investments in updated Sound Transit plan

May 28, 2026

King County Councilmember and Sound Transit Board Member Steffanie Fain issued the following statement Thursday after the Sound Transit Board approved an updated Sound Transit 3 System Plan designed to align voter-approved projects with available financial resources while continuing to advance key regional transit investments.

As part of the package, the Board also approved three amendments co-sponsored by Fain to fully fund the Renton Transit Center Parking Garage through the reallocation of existing parking project funds, advance a path forward for the Boeing Access Road Station, and support negotiations to expand Sounder service, including a potential midday pilot:

“I am pleased the Sound Transit Board's updated plan includes my co-sponsored amendments to fully fund the Renton Transit Center parking garage, advance a path forward for the Boeing Access Road Station, and support expanded transit access in North Tukwila and additional Sounder service. I appreciate the collaboration of my colleagues and local leaders across the region who helped advance these priorities.

“Today's vote represents meaningful progress for current and future South King County riders and demonstrates that Sound Transit can address affordability challenges while continuing to improve mobility and access. I remain committed to working with my colleagues to deliver on the promises made to voters through ST3 and build a stronger, more connected regional transportation system."
