Story

WHEREAS, the Bertschi School is celebrating its 40th year of educating young people from throughout King County; and

WHEREAS, established in 1976 by Brigitte Bertschi, the school has nurtured a diverse, thriving student body by instilling independence, responsibility, and academic excellence in each of its students; and

WHEREAS, since its origin in a rented classroom in Lowell School, the Bertschi School has evolved to become a warm and inviting Capitol Hill institution that is a safe haven for all children; and

WHEREAS, the Bertschi School is committed to honoring the unique contributions to our society by people of all ethnic, economic, religious, and racial backgrounds; physical abilities; learning styles; gender identities, and sexual orientations; and

WHEREAS, being a responsible citizen and serving others is an integral part of education, and the Bertschi School positively encourages global citizenship and stewardship of our planet; and

WHEREAS, the school is housed in the fourth Living Building in the world: the Bertschi Center is a LEED certified building, and the school has a no-waste policy; and

WHEREAS, the Bertschi School’s rich, integrated academic program reaches across disciplines and grade levels to inspire each student’s unique skills, stimulate analytical thinking and creativity, and broaden students’ experience and knowledge;

NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Metropolitan King County Council, recognize the

as students, parents, faculty, and the community gather to celebrate its 40th anniversary and honor Brigitte Bertschi for her tremendous achievements and success.
