Minor Work Permits
To obtain a minor work permit, you must file a petition for a minor work permit with the clerk and pay the civil filing fee.
Required Forms to File a Minor Work Permit Case
1. Petition for Minor Work Permit
A template for the petition can be obtained from the Department of Labor & Industries: https://lni.wa.gov/forms-publications/F700-118-000.pdf. Do not include the fact sheet or the court order with the petition when filing documents with the clerk.
2. Case Information Coversheet (CICS)
When filing online, the Case Information Coversheet will be generated for you through the data entered during the filing process. File Required Forms

How to file your case:
- Filing online: Go to the Electronic Filing & Service page for step‑by‑step instructions on using the KC Script Portal.
- Filing in person: Visit the Cashiers desk at any of the three Superior Court Clerk offices. See our Hours & Locations page for more info.
- Filing by mail: Mail your completed forms to any Clerk’s office.
- Include your civil filing fee payment or filing fee waiver forms.
- Make your check, cashier's check, or money order payable to: King County Superior Court Clerk
- Write “ATTN: Cashiers” on the envelope.
- If you want a stamped “received” copy back, include a stamped, self‑addressed envelope and an extra copy of your form.

Important rules:
- Attorneys must file electronically (see LGR 30).
- People without an attorney may file online, in person, or by mail.
After your case is filed, you will get a case number. Use this number for all future papers you file in the case.

Complete Proposed Order
Fill out and complete all fields in the proposed order. A template for the order can be obtained from the Department of Labor & Industries: https://lni.wa.gov/forms-publications/F700-118-000.pdf.
Note: The Judge will not fill in the form other than to sign it, unless they need to change what was requested.

Set a Hearing
Contact the Judge's bailiff to schedule a hearing.
- Cases with a Seattle designation should contact the Chief Civil Judge at the King County Courthouse
- Cases with a Kent designation should contact the Chief MRJC Judge at the Maleng Regional Justice Center.

File a Note for Hearing
Once a hearing date has been set, complete the Notice of Court Date and file it with the Clerk's Office. If any other parties are required notice, you'll need to serve them with the petition and Notice of Court Date.

Note: Be sure to select the proper designation form for Seattle or Kent. -
Deliver Working Copies and Proposed Order to Court Prior to Hearing Date
The court requires your supporting documents and proposed order to review prior to the hearing. The group of documents are commonly referred to as "working copies”.

After Your Hearing
The judge will review the working copies and sign an order. After the order is signed, the court will send copies to the party and file the original with the clerk.

Obtaining a Certified Copy
Additional copies of the signed order, including certified copies, may be obtained from the Clerk's Office after it's been filed.
