The property tax payment deadline for first half taxes is May 1, 2023. The deadline for second half tax payments is October 31, 2023.

How to pay property taxes

There are three ways to pay property taxes:

When are tax payments due?

Property taxes are due twice a year. First half taxes must be paid or postmarked by April 30 or the full year tax becomes delinquent on May 1. Second half taxes must be paid or postmarked by October 31 or they become delinquent on November 1.

How do I find my real property parcel or tax account number?

The tax account or parcel number is located on your property tax statement or Assessor's Valuation Change Notice.

If you need help, call the Department of Assessments at 206-296-7300. You can also look up your parcel information by using the eReal Property Search tool.

What to know if your mortgage company pays your property taxes

It is the taxpayer's responsibility to make sure their taxes are paid on time. Visit our Property Tax webpage or call 206-263-2890 to confirm that your taxes are current.

Mortgage companies often use processing companies to make these payments. Processing companies will typically submit payments the last week before the deadline. Contact your mortgage company if your taxes do not show as paid 10 days after the due date.

Where can I find information about my property taxes?

You can request an informational tax statement by calling Treasury Operations at 206-263-2890.

Your tax statements are also available online. To view your statement online, you will need your tax account number or your parcel number.

What taxes can you pay online?

Real property tax accounts can pay half-year taxes, full-year taxes, and delinquent taxes online. To pay a full year of real property taxes, check both boxes for the two current half-year payments.

Personal property accounts can pay half-year taxes for current accounts only. To pay the entire year of personal property taxes, wait 24 hours after paying the first half. We apologize for the inconvenience, this is a limitation of our online payment system.

Paying delinquent taxes online

Check the boxes for the years you wish to pay. State law allows you to select which delinquent years you want to pay. You must pay the full amount due for each year selected.

For properties in foreclosure, additional costs apply. Call 206-263-2649 to find out the total amount due and to pay these taxes.

Delinquent taxes and property tax payment plans

Both real and personal property taxes are subject to late charges. Late charges begin on the day following the due date and are calculated based on State law RCW 84.56.020. King County offers payment plans for prior and current year delinquent taxes.

For delinquent first half taxes, monthly late charges are calculated based on the full year amount of tax owed.  For second half taxes, monthly charges are calculated for the unpaid second half tax amount. Late charges will continue to acrrue as long as the tax remains delinquent.

You can view or pay delinquent first half real property taxes online before the October 31 deadline for second half taxes.

Delinquent first half personal property taxes paid before October 31 cannot be paid online. You must mail a check to the King County Treasury. Call 206-263-2844 to find out the full amount due.

Property tax payment plans through King County

King County offers monthly payment plans for delinquent prior year(s) taxes. There are conditions and limitations to think about when considering a payment plan through King County:

  • There is no reduction of late charges under a payment plan agreement.
  • State law does not allow for forgiveness or reduction of delinquent charges when participating in payment plans.
  • When calculating a payment plan, we identify the projected payoff date. This date cannot be greater than 12 months. All projected interest charges are factored into the monthly payment.

Payment plans require a formal written agreement between the taxpayer and the King County Treasury. Evergreen Escrow handles monthly payments on behalf of the treasury. There is a $75 setup fee for each payment plan, and monthly payments include a $15 processing fee.

For more information or if you think you are eligle to participate in a payment plan, contact the King County Treasury by email at PaymentPlans@kingcount.gov or call 206-263-2649.

Proerty taxes that are three or more years delinquent may be subject to foreclosure action. Contact the King County Treasury Foreclosure Unit at 206-263-2649 for more details.
