Story

Media are invited to join King County Executive Ron Sims at St. Mathews Lutheran Church (1700 Edmonds Ave. NE, Renton WA) at approx 9:45 a.m. Friday morning where he will meet with evacuees and get a briefing from flood control managers about the magnitude of flooding on King County Rivers compared to previous flood events.

The Executive will be joined by the Director of the King County Office of Emergency Management as well as the King County Roads Division Manager who will brief the Executive on the County’s response to the flooding emergency and the extensive and costly damage to numerous King County roads. The briefing will continue just off the Maple Valley highway near the site of flood damage that forced the evacuation of a nearby mobile home park.

The damage assessment and briefing will continue near the Cedar River Trail, which is the only access for several residents isolated in their neighborhood by flood waters. Additional stops may be scheduled in Snoqualmie and Fall City.

King County has responded to numerous emergency situations related to the current flood, which has reached historic levels in come communities. County staff are working closely with local fire districts and other first responders, including Sheriffs Deputies trained in helicopter rescue, to responded to emergency needs, assist with evacuation of residents, respond to calls for help, and coordinate communications.
