King County will reach a significant milestone in its 155 year history this weekend when a new logo in the image of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is unveiled at a community event on Sunday, March 11. The original graphic design meets requirements of a County Council measure passed one year ago directing the county to design a new logo in the likeness of Dr. King, which will replace the gold crown logo. From Crown to King: King County Changes Logo
After thirty-eight years of using an imperial crown as King County's logo, the King County Council adopted a logo more fitting of our democracy and the ideals of our diverse community. Twenty years after King County was renamed in honor of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the county will bear Dr. King's image as its official logo. The logo change will take place over five years in order to reduce material and equipment replacement costs. Read more about the logo change.

During the this weekend's ceremonies and festivities honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Metropolitan King County Councilman Larry Gossett will continue to garner support for his proposal to change the official logo of King County from a crown to a likeness of Dr. King.
