Bereavement Leave

Bereavement Leave

Your rights and responsibilities

Bereavement leave is for a leave of absence due to a death in your immediate family. You are given a total of 5 days of bereavement leave per year. For the first or following deaths in a year, you can also use up to 3 days of sick leave following the Bereavement Leave. If you have more than one death in your immediate family in the same calendar year, you are not entitled to additional bereavement leave, but you may use up to 3 days of sick leave. Any further leave must be approved in advance, such as use of your accrued leave or a Leave Without Pay. If you are requesting a Leave Without Pay, please refer to the process as identified on that link.
