How do I get a protection order?

How do I get a protection order?

How do I get a protection order in Seattle or King County?

People who need emergency protection against a domestic abuser can get a protection order online. Follow this link for information.

The online protection orders were an innovation that the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office launched in March 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic, though it was an effort we worked on for several months prior.

A protection order is a type of restraining order that the petitioner can file against another person (the respondent) in cases where the petitioner believes they were the victim of domestic violence by the other person.

Because it is a civil order, petitioners can file this type of order even if the police have never been called or there has never been a domestic violence conviction.
