Taxiway A11 Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Project
King County International Airport plans to rehabilitate and reconstruct Taxiway A11. This taxiway is used by group 2 aircraft and smaller planes to access the runway, and a recent survey found the pavement is reaching the end of its service life.
This project will consist of three phases: design, bidding, and construction. We are currently in the design phase with construction expected to start in the summer of 2024. This webpage will be updated periodically to note the project's progress. Information about the project, including recordings of public meetings, is available on the Library page.

Airport Tenant and Community Meetings
KCIA will host a second public meeting to review the final design stages of the reconstruction of the taxiway A11 intersection and rehabilitation of secondary runway (14L / 32R). Both projects are slated to begin construction in the spring of 2024 and will have an airfield impact.
September 12, Noon - 1 p.m. (in-person) and 5 - 6 p.m. (online) (the meetings will cover the same information)
KCIA will host a second public meeting to review the final design stages of two airfield projects:
- Reconstruction of the taxiway A11 intersection
- Rehabilitation of our secondary runway (14L / 32R).
About the project
Why does King County need to do this project?
The pavement on Taxiway A11 has reached the end of its useful life and needs repair. If left unattended, this can create less than optimal conditions for the aircraft that rely on this taxiway to access the runway. By rehabilitating the pavement, we can ensure the longevity of the taxiway, improve the efficiency of airport operations, and maintain high safety standards.
What does this project consist of?
- Replacing compromised pavement
- Updating airfield lights to more efficient LED fixtures
- Refreshing taxiway markings and signage
- Additional possible work items include conduit replacement, new cable installation, trenching, and backfill
Project schedule
- Phase One: Design - Summer 2023
- Phase Two: Bidding - Spring 2024
- Phase Three: Construction - Summer 2024
With construction anticipated to start in the summer of 2024, our project team and contractors will work to minimize the impact on airport operations and the local community.
