Interbay sewer and odor control upgrade
The Interbay Sewer and Odor Control Upgrade Project will replace aging sewer pipes in Seattle’s Interbay neighborhood and add new odor control technology.
Project description
King County plans to upgrade an aging sewer pipe in Seattle’s Interbay neighborhood. The existing pipe was built in 1967 and is nearing the end of its service life. New odor control technology will be added to the system while the sewer pipe upgrade is underway. Major construction is expected to begin in 2024. When complete, the sewer will provide reliable service for another 50 years or more.

General project updates
Earlier this summer we distributed our summer 2024 project newsletter. The newsletter contains an overview of the Interbay Sewer and Odor Control Upgrade Project and upcoming work. This newsletter is now available online in English and Español (Spanish).
Construction activities continue on West Armory Way and West Wheeler Street. Construction is ramping up on the Interbay Sewer and Odor Control Upgrade Project.
Over the past month, crews have been preparing the site for the new odor control facility. Crews have been clearing the land and putting up construction fencing. Starting as early as next week and continuing through the summer, neighbors and businesses will see a variety of construction activities. Check out our recent notification for more details.
