King County Districting Committee to hold first meeting

Summary

The King County Districting Committee for redrawing Council districts based on 2010 Census data, will hold its first meeting on Monday, January 24, 2011.

Story

The King County Districting Committee, the citizen committee responsible for redrawing Council districts based on 2010 Census data, will hold its first meeting on Monday, January 24 to discuss the appointment of a fifth member to serve as chair:

Monday, Jan. 24, 2:00-3:30 p.m.
King County Administration Building
8th Floor, Conference Room A
500 Fourth Avenue, Seattle, WA 98104

The meeting is open to the public. The Committee has until January 31 to make the appointment.

State law and the County Charter require King County to redraw Council district boundaries using the most recent U.S. Census data. The King County Charter places the authority for adopting a final districting plan with the Districting Committee. After selecting a fifth member as Chair, the Committee will contract with a technical expert to serve as “districting master” and hold public meetings to gather community input.
