The Community Advisory Committee provides input and guidance on policies, procedures and practices relating to policing in King County. The committee also advises the King County Sheriff’s Office and the King County Council on matters of equity and social justice related to law enforcement and on systemic problems and opportunities for improvement within the Sheriff’s Office.

Committee members act as liaisons between OLEO and King County's diverse communities. This includes conducting outreach to communities served by the Sheriff’s Office, gathering information about public perceptions and concerns relating to the Sheriff’s Office, and providing the public with information about recourse for alleged police misconduct. This outreach should increase accountability and public understanding of the misconduct and discipline policies, procedures and practices of the Sheriff’s Office and other issues related to OLEO’s responsibilities.
