About In Motion

Since 2004, King County Metro has worked with 40 neighborhoods to encourage residents to use sustainable travel modes and save money, help the environment and be more active while they’re at it. The In Motion program was built using the foundations of community-based social marketing: speaking to the motivations of local communities by providing information, getting action commitments, and offering prompts and incentives to encourage new, healthier travel behavior.

Over the past 13 years, King County neighborhoods have:

Reduced over 3.2 million miles of drive alone trips.

Saved 157,000 gallons of gas.

Saved over 1,500 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere.

Guide to Creating Inclusive Campaigns

ESJ Guide

At King County Metro we take equity and social justice seriously. As a part of the planning process for our In Motion program, we developed a guide to creating inclusive campaigns. This was developed to help us, and other programs, ensure we are using best practices to serve everyone based on their needs, regardless of their race, age, gender, income, or ability to speak English.
