Historic Preservation Program

Learn about the Historic Preservation Program and its efforts to preserve the history of King County.

Our mission

Whether it's a 19th century log house, an Art Deco school, or a precontact shell midden, these places are all silent witnesses. Witnesses to the history of King County, to its people's lives, and cultures. The Historic Preservation Program works alongside the Landmarks Commission to protect the history of King County.

Now known as Cherry Valley Dairy, this historic farm was originally worked by the Dougherty Family. The barn was built in 1942 by local carpenter Herman Jerstad. The Coy Brothers (John, Frank, James, and Paul) acquired the farm in 1948 and continued to operate the dairy for the next 40 years. The family was named “Dairy Family of the Year” in 1960 by the Northwest Dairy Federation.
