The state of Washington begins offering Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) to eligible employees on Jan. 1, 2020. PFML is a statewide insurance program administered by the Employment Security Department. PFML is funded by mandatory employer contributions and employee payroll deductions.

All eligible represented and non-represented employees are required to pay this mandatory payroll deduction which includes all unions of the King County Coalition of Unions. Mandatory deductions began for most employees on Jan. 1, 2019 but some unions are not yet eligible for PFML benefits. This includes:

• King County Police Officers Guild
• Puget Sound Police Managers Association – Captains
• Puget Sound Police Managers Association – Majors
