Starting this summer, the King County Road Services Division is planning to make several safety improvements to a section of Southeast Covington Sawyer Road, which connects the Lake Sawyer community with Highway 18 near Covington and Kent. A project open house is planned 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the Grass Lake Elementary School Library, 28700 191st Place in Kent.

Starting this summer, the King County Road Services Division is planning to make several safety improvements to a section of Southeast Covington-Sawyer Road, which connects the Lake Sawyer community with Highway 18 near Covington and Kent.

A project open house is planned 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the Grass Lake Elementary School Library, 28700 191st Place S.E. in Kent.

To help reduce collisions on this stretch of road, the county will:

• add a two-way left-turn lane from 179th Avenue Southeast to 181st Avenue Southeast
• realign the intersection with 179th Avenue Southeast
• create paved shoulders, and
• install lighting and guardrail in certain places

State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) environmental review information is provided on the project website and comments will be accepted through 4:30 p.m. March 6, 2014.

The road will remain open during construction, but users should expect delays due to lane closures during non-commute hours. When one lane is closed, flaggers will help maintain a consistent flow of traffic.
