Have an idea about how to make Third Avenue in downtown Seattle more transit and pedestrian friendly? The Seattle Department of Transportation and Metro Transit want to know what you think will better connect and improve Third Avenue for transit users, pedestrians, business and visitors alike as they design future improvements along the corridor.

Beginning October 9 a series of four “neighborhood sessions” will be held outside along Third Avenue to discuss potential future improvements in the busy downtown corridor. The project aims to make Third Avenue an inviting, accommodating, safe and attractive place where people want to be.

Meet the project team on the street to share your ideas. Attendees will have an opportunity to learn about the Third Avenue Transit Corridor Improvement Project, provide feedback and ask questions. Design options could include:

• Improved lighting
• New bus shelters/waiting areas for transit riders
• New artistic elements throughout the corridor to make Third Avenue feel more welcoming and enjoyable

The sessions will take place outside on the sidewalk (rain or shine) on the following dates:

Belltown
Thursday, October 9
3 p.m. – 6 p.m.
East side of Third at Bell Street

Downtown
Saturday, October 11
11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
East side of Third, between Stewart and Pine streets

Wednesday, October 15
3 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
West side of Third, between Spring and Seneca streets

Pioneer Square
Thursday, October 16
11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
East side of Third, between Yesler Way and S Washington Street

Third Avenue is downtown Seattle’s most heavily used transit corridor. More than 2,500 buses travel the corridor every weekday with approximately 42,000 riders boarding at bus stops each day. Thousands of visitors, workers, shoppers and area residents also use Third Avenue daily.

The project will complement the many other improvements currently underway in the downtown area.
