Cedar River Council

Cedar River Council

Cedar River CouncilCedar River Council (CRC) is a public forum connecting people and the river to their government.

The Cedar River Council is an independent, public-private body that promotes the health of the Cedar River Basin, focusing on lower basin issues. King County contributes staff support to the Council.

The Cedar River Council (CRC) began meeting as a group in 1995, with the intent of coordinating implementation of Cedar River Basin Plan recommendations, which were largely focused on the lower Cedar River Basin below City of Seattle’s diversion dam at Landsburg. The CRC was specifically cited by King County Council Motion 9410 (1994), which created the Cedar River Legacy Project by Ordinance 12809 (1997) which adopted the basin plan.

The primary focus of the CRC was on implementation of the basin plan and Cedar River Legacy acquisition priorities. The CRC’s work program and focus has evolved over the years but has always included a strong component of supporting the primary goals of the basin plan, which were related to flood hazard reduction, habitat protection and restoration, and water quality protection.

Council membership includes residents and representatives from environmental groups, businesses, and local, state, federal and tribal governments.

All interested in the economic and ecological health of the Cedar River basin are encouraged to participate!
