Fall City Land Acquisition Strategy and Community Outreach Project
The Fall City Land Acquisition Strategy and Community Outreach Project Report is a long-term strategy for conserving open space within the boundary of the Fall City Metropolitan Park District . The report identifies Fall City community priorities and presents recommendations related to land acquisition and management.
Over the past few decades, King County has acquired local land for conservation and restoration objectives such as:
- Reducing the risk of flooding;
- Advancing healthy habitats for fish and wildlife;
- Increasing opportunities for recreation;
- Creating opportunities for healthy local food and a thriving agricultural economy; and
- Increasing mobility, improving human health and reducing pollution.
The Fall City community expressed an interest in collaborating with King County to better understand acquisitions in and around Fall City. In response, King County brought together the Fall City Community Stakeholder Group from May 2017 to February 2018. This group was made up of community leaders representing diverse backgrounds and perspectives, including:

- Fall City Floating, LLC
- Fall City Metropolitan Park District
- Fall City residents
- Fire District 27
- Fall City Water District
- Raging River Conservation Group
- Snoqualmie Tribe
The main objectives of this project were to review the King County Land Conservation Initiative, the countywide, long-term plan for land conservation and acquisition; identify Fall City community priorities that overlap with this effort; and identify community outreach protocols when King County proposes to acquire land in the Fall City area.
Recommendations
The main recommendations resulting from this collaboration are focused on the following priority areas:
- Improve WLRD community outreach for land purchases;
- Maintain King County-owned properties;
- Improve public access on the Snoqualmie River;
- Preserve a building for a Fall City community center, as identified in the Land Conservation Initiative;
- Improve trail connections in and around the Fall City area; and
- Support and improve downtown Fall City.
