King County Elections (KCE) mailed out nearly 1.4 million ballots to registered voters across King County today for this year’s General Election. KCE is projecting 72% turnout for this election, or approximately 1 million ballots returned.

King County Executive Dow Constantine joined Elections Director Julie Wise today at Elections Headquarters, where they addressed election security and stressed the importance of every voter turning out in the coming election.

"King County Elections is one of the best in the business at ensuring the security of every vote, from the moment you get your ballot in the mail or a drop box, to the day it's received and processed," said Executive Constantine. "Thanks to Director Wise and her team, your vote and our elections are secure. Our democracy is only as strong as our voices in it – so let’s make sure every voice in King County is heard in November."

Wise announced KCE’s new text and email ballot alerts. Voters can now opt in to receive text or email notifications as their ballot is processed, making it even easier to know that their vote counted. Ballot alerts will also let voters know if there is an issue with their signature that they need to resolve before their vote can be counted. Alerts are available in English, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, and Vietnamese.

Wise also highlighted the many ways that King County Elections provides transparency in elections, and her staff’s commitment to ensuring every election is accurate, secure, and accessible for all voters.

We are extensively trained and deeply experienced in running vote-by-mail elections. We are ready for this midterm election and ready for our voters to make their voices heard.”

Voters who do not receive a ballot by Monday, October 24, or who have questions, should call King County Elections at 206-296-VOTE (8683). Ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, Nov. 8, or returned to one of the 76 ballot drop box locations across the county. Drop boxes are open 24-hours, seven days a week until 8 p.m. on Election Day. Ballots can be returned at any time before the deadline – but the earlier, the better.

The deadline to register to vote online is Oct. 31. Voters can register and vote through 8 p.m. on Election Day at any of KCE’s Vote Center locations around King County.
