King County partners with individuals and organizations to seek, award, and manage federal and non-federal grants.

Awards

The grants team awarded more than $60 million to community organizations and individuals since 2021. The awards are part of our commitment to creating an equitable economic recovery for all. Highlights include the following:

South King County Shelter Project

The $5 million grant helps cities in south King County develop new homeless shelters. The funding also helps with construction costs.

Grant applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis until mid-2024.

South King County $1M  Asylum-Seeker Support RFP

The goal of this funding is to rapidly serve unsheltered asylum-seeking families or individuals currently residing in or near Tukwila, by, among other things, providing temporary housing, food, support, and legal services.

Childcare expansion

Up to 300 new childcare slots are now available in King County as part of funding for Imagine U.

Funding also allows 25 participants to complete the Imagine U training program to become licensed family childcare providers.

Grant funds also go to support 41 providers. They get emergency preparedness training and tools to help them run a profitable, efficient business.

Waterfront Shuttle

The free Waterfront Shuttle connects the Seattle waterfront, the Space Needle, Pioneer Square, and King Street Station. More than 14,000 riders used the shuttle between July and October of 2023.

Racism is a Public Health Crisis Resiliency Fund

The Gathering Collaborative fund provides $25 million to organizations that address racism as a public health crisis. Recipients include more than 130 small businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations.

Behavioral Health Apprenticeship Program

Funding of $4 million helps increase trained, skilled, and diverse professionals in the behavioral health workforce.

The project has 53 active participants across three tracks—substance use disorder professionals, peer counselors, and behavioral health technicians. Watch the video to learn more.

Arts, culture and tourism

Festivals and events grant program

The program provided $1.9 million to support the re-opening of festivals and events in the County.

The $19.5 million fund provided relief to cultural organizations and businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

4Culture Recovery Fund:

The 4Culture Recovery Fund supported cultural organizations that lost revenue during the pandemic.

Community Services

SoDo Food Hub Project:

This grant helped establish a multipurpose food processing and distribution facility. It serves as a co-packing space to support local food security infrastructure.

Digital Equity Grants:

The County awarded $2 million in digital equity grants to groups, agencies, and organizations serving communities impacted by COVID-19.

Awarded grants support strategic communications, the Coalition Against Hate and Bias, and language access.

Economic Recovery

Behavioral Health Apprenticeship Pathways:

The SEIU Healthcare 1199 NW Multi-Employer Training Fund administers the $4 million award. The funding will help implement the Behavioral Health Apprenticeship program.

Equitable Economic Recovery:

The Racism as a Public Health Crisis resiliency fund provides $25 million to more than 120 small businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations whose work is essential to addressing Racism as a Public Health Crisis.
