Related projects

The Vashon-Maury Island Subarea Plan included three Workplan Action Items that needed more review outside the scope of the subarea planning process.

  1. Review of “P-Suffix” Development Conditions
Review the history of all property-specific development conditions (or p-suffixes) on Vashon-Maury Island to see if any updates are needed. Thirty-two p-suffix conditions are now under review, and this has been included in the scope of the 2024 Comprehensive Plan Update, which is now underway. Learn more on our community outreach public input website.
  2. Sewer Local Service Area
Review the legislative history of the sewer Local Service Area on Vashon-Maury Island and determine its current boundary. This was completed in 2019 and the associated report was transmitted to the King County Council.
  3. Affordable Housing Incentives
Review and assess the effectiveness of the affordable housing special district overlay in Vashon Rural Town that was adopted in 2017 as part of the Vashon-Maury Island Subarea Plan. Three annual reports have been completed so far (see below). The fourth and final evaluation of the special district overlay has been included as part of the 2024 Comprehensive Plan Update, which is currently underway.

2024 Comprehensive Plan

King County has begun the 2024 update of its Comprehensive Plan, a key policy document that guides growth and development in unincorporated King County over the next 20 years. The focus of this update will be on climate, housing, and anti-racist/pro-equity policies. Two of the Workplan Action Items (Review of “P-Suffix” Conditions and Affordable Housing Incentives) in the Vashon-Maury Island Subarea plan are included in the scope of this update.
