All office locations across the country develop annual carbon footprint analyses, seeking ways to improve their business while reducing their impact on the environment. Their sustainability initiative includes encouraging train travel (versus air travel) to nearby offices, such as Portland, and promoting the use of virtual meetings whenever possible. The commute program is a key component of their sustainability program and the results are impressive: a 6% drive-alone rate to their office in downtown Seattle.

The mainstay of the commute program at Parsons Brinckerhoff is the provision of ORCA Passport to all employees, with 50% of the pass cost subsidized by the company. The pass is incredibly popular with employees and provides a guaranteed ride home to those who don't drive alone to work, in case of emergency.

In addition to providing passes, Parsons Brinckerhoff has a shared office bike for employee use, as well as showers and lockers on both floors for employees who bike to work and they annually participate in Bike Month and Bike-to-work day challenges. The office has three carpool vehicles for business and personal use, when a vehicle is needed for transporting materials or for traveling to meetings when transit may not be an option. Furthermore, Parsons Brinckerhoff pays the annual membership fee for employees wishing to participant in Zipcar car sharing. Finally, Parsons Brinckerhoff does not provide any employee parking at their office in downtown Seattle.
