Story

Thanksgiving schedules in effect Nov. 27 and 28

King County Metro Transit reminds riders that buses will operate on Sunday and reduced weekday schedules over the Thanksgiving holiday and during several holiday periods through January – including a full week of reduced service at the end of December.

On Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 27, Metro will operate a Sunday schedule. On Friday, Nov. 28, Metro will operate reduced weekday service, which offers more service than on weekends, but somewhat less service than on normal weekdays.

Using a limited schedule over holiday periods from November through January is estimated to save Metro about $1 million each year. These are planned reductions for holiday periods when Metro has historically seen a reduction in the number of weekday riders – estimated to be 15 percent or more systemwide. Details are posted on Metro’s holiday and reduced service page.

Metro offices, including the Customer Information phone line, and Lost and Found and Pass Sales counters, will be closed on both Thursday and Friday. The Customer Information Office at 206-553-3000 will reopen on Saturday morning.

Sunday schedules will be in effect on the following holidays:

  • Thursday, Nov. 27 – Thanksgiving
  • Thursday, Dec. 25 – Christmas
  • Thursday, Jan. 1 – New Year’s Day

The reduced weekday schedule and no UW will be in effect on:

  • Friday, Nov. 28 – day after Thanksgiving
  • Wednesday, Dec. 24 – Christmas Eve
  • Friday and Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Dec. 26, 29, 30, 31  – winter holiday period, weekdays only
  • Monday, Jan. 19 – Martin Luther King Jr. Day

On days with reduced weekday schedules, some commuter and school-oriented routes do not operate, and other routes have individual trips canceled. Also, Metro makes some adjustments to routes that serve the University of Washington. When the UW is not in session, there will be some bus trip reductions.

Many routes will have no changes. If the route is not listed below, it has no changes when reduced weekday service is in effect.
