Travelers in King County should prepare for the possibility of snow in some areas and possible travel delays late Sunday and Christmas morning. Metro customers are urged to familiarize themselves with the planned snow route for their regular bus and visit MetroWinter.com.

Celebrate New Year’s with free rides on Metro
Metro will usher in 2018 with free rides for all customers on New Year’s Eve. People celebrating or working late will also be able to take the Seattle Streetcar for free, and Sound Transit Link light rail will be extending service.

King County Metro will operate some buses on reduced schedules Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 23, and Friday, Nov. 24. The King County Water Taxi will not operate during those two days. Bus riders should plan for possible delays and reroutes during holiday weekend events.

Metro seeks feedback on upgrading Route 120 into future RapidRide H Line
King County Metro is working with the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) to expand the frequent, reliable RapidRide network to new parts of Seattle and King County. A public survey released Nov. 14 asks riders to prioritize their transportation needs and to identify opportunities for upgrading Metro Route 120 to the future RapidRide H Line.

Metro operating a reduced schedule this Veterans Day; no Water Taxi service
King County Metro customers are reminded that some buses will operate on reduced weekday schedules on several holiday periods in the coming months through January, including Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 10. The King County Water Taxi also has service changes on upcoming holidays.

Metro working to provide transport to all Access customers after contractor network outage
Contractors that provide King County Metro’s Access Paratransit Service experienced a network outage Thursday afternoon that affected their customer database and the ability to locate and pick up passengers. Metro is asking Access riders or residents who see Access customers in need of a ride to immediately call (206) 205-5000.

Metro expands Carpool Permit Parking to 9 park-and-rides
Starting November 1, King County Metro will offer reserved parking for carpoolers at nine additional park-and-rides, including Green Lake, Aurora Village, Shoreline, Kenmore, Bear Creek, Bothell, Kingsgate, Wilburton, Renton Metropolitan Place, and Tukwila. To access reserved parking, customers must first obtain a free Carpool Parking Permit.

King County Metro to pay back wages to transit operators identified during U.S. Department of Labor review
King County Metro today informed employees that eligible transit operators will receive back wages determined by a U.S. Department of Labor review of Metro pay practices.

Seahawks park-and-ride shuttle service canceled for Oct. 1 night game
King County Metro’s direct shuttle service to Seahawks games from area park-and-ride lots has been canceled for the game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, October 1. [UPDATE: The Seahawks shuttle service has been canceled for the remainder of the season].

King County Metro riders will see more bus service, boosted Night Owl service starting Sept. 23
Riders will see more King County Metro bus service starting Sept. 23 on dozens of routes, including expanded Night Owl bus service on 13 routes, as well as more reliable service across the county. Improvements are funded by King County and Seattle’s voter-approved Proposition 1. Details are now online and new purple timetables will be available soon.

Riding Metro to the game? Plan for reroutes and changes to Husky football park-and-ride shuttle service
Fans headed to the Huskies’ home opener this Saturday at Husky Stadium can ride Metro-operated shuttle buses directly to the stadium from six park-and-ride locations. In a change from past years, the University of Washington is contracting for private shuttles to operate from the Shoreline park-and-ride and Northgate Transit Center.

Metro Transit announced that James Turner is the Transit Operator of the Year. Chosen by his peers, he represents the best of Metro’s 2,800 bus drivers, who carry nearly 122 million riders each year. Water Taxi resumes service following move
Following a five-day service interruption to move to its new temporary location at Pier 52, King County Water Taxi will resume its West Seattle service Saturday, Aug. 12, two days earlier than anticipated. It resumes its Vashon Island service Monday, Aug. 14.

The King County Water Taxi will suspend all service for up to one week starting Monday, Aug. 7 as the downtown Seattle terminal is relocated to accommodate construction of a new terminal.

Sound Transit, Metro to run late night service for July 4 revelers
For the first time since light rail began operating service, revelers celebrating Independence Day this year will be able to ride Link trains until 2 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5—an hour later than normal. For bus riders, King County Metro will deploy more than 40 extra buses from 10:30 p.m. to midnight on routes serving Seattle Center, Gas Works Park, downtown and light rail stations to help crowds get home.

Tolt Hill Bridge Emergency Closure
King County Road Services has scheduled an emergency closure of Tolt Hill Bridge 1834A where Northeast Tolt Hill Road crosses the Snoqualmie River, west of the City of Carnation. Tolt Hill Bridge 1834A will fully close to traffic starting at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 16. Detours will be in place for travelers.

Metro to increase park-and-ride enforcement
King County Metro will step up enforcement this month at several area park-and-rides to ensure customers are following the rules and that spaces are being used by transit riders. Starting May 23, drivers who break the rules will receive courtesy warnings. After June 12, vehicles will be at risk of towing after two violations.

Metro partners with Des Moines and Normandy Park to pilot new transportation solutions
King County Metro has partnered with the Cities of Des Moines and Normandy Park to pilot new transportation services for commuters and residents as the area experiences an influx of new employers. As a first step, Metro wants to hear from area workers through an online survey about their transportation needs. The survey will help shape pilot services through Metro’s Community Connections program, an innovative collaboration with local government and community partners.

Metro announces new partnership to increase park-and-ride options for transit riders
A new partnership between King County Metro and Diamond Parking Services aims to increase park-and-ride options for people connecting to transit. The pilot project and its website, Parkbytransit.com, connect people with fee-based parking on commercial and residential properties near major bus routes. Spaces will be available June 1 but customers can apply for permits starting today.

Major transit delays, reroutes expected in Seattle on May Day
Transit riders should prepare for significant traffic delays and rerouted buses in downtown Seattle on Monday, May 1, especially during the afternoon and evening commute, as dozens of Metro and Sound Transit routes will be temporarily rerouted or intermittently delayed during May Day events. Seattle First Hill and South Lake Union streetcar service also will be affected on May 1 as a result of planned marches.

Metro seeks public comment on two proposals for simplifying bus fares
As part of a public process to simplify bus fares, King County Metro has unveiled two options to make adult fare payment faster and easier for all riders. Metro developed these options with input from a community advisory group and the results from a public survey. Metro invites the public to tell us which of the two proposals they prefer via an online questionnaire.

King County elected officials honored the memory of Luther Dean Bonner – a Seattle firefighter whose courageous sacrifice in 1943 has been largely forgotten– and named the new rescue and fire station at King County International Airport in his memory.

Reserve your ride: New service gets you around and between Black Diamond and Enumclaw
Southeast King County residents have a new way to get around and between Black Diamond and Enumclaw for work, school, errands and appointments. The Black Diamond–Enumclaw Community Ride is a reservation-based service that will fully launch with a brand new vehicle on March 13 as part of King County Metro Transit’s spring service change.

More trips, better reliability: Metro Transit adding bus service March 11
King County Metro launches another round of service improvements March 11, adding trips and improving reliability on more than 80 routes. The changes affect about one-third of Metro’s bus routes at a time when the Seattle metro area leads the nation in record high ridership growth and King County has budgeted service expansion in 2017 and 2018. Details of route improvements are online and new teal timetables will be available on buses soon.

Metro Transit launched its latest In Motion program Feb. 22, offering people who live or work in the Beacon Hill and Mount Baker areas the opportunity to earn rewards for pledging to drive less. Metro, SDOT expand late-night bus service for workers, travelers and nightlife denizens
King County Executive Dow Constantine and Seattle Mayor Ed Murray announced legislation Tuesday to expand and improve late-night bus service in the City of Seattle. The proposal, which Executive Constantine will submit to the King County Council, meets demand for transit from late-night and early-morning workers, as well as those traveling off-hours to the airport and enjoying nightlife.
