Our transportation resources help schools and districts fight climate change by encouraging low impact forms of travel. Examples include walking, bicycling, riding the school bus, and carpooling.
Students and their families traveling to and from school account for an estimated 25 percent of automobile commuting trips. That percentage doesn’t include commuting by school and district staff.

Our guide helps staff, students, and families choose modes of transportation that don’t pollute the air, negatively affect human health, and increase carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change.
Recognition
Schools working on the Sustainable Green School level can check the Sustaining Green School for the steps to recognition. One requirement is to complete an additional action or educational strategy each year. Your school may select any action from any of the program's Best Practices Guides, including the Transportation Best Practices Guide.
