Recorder's Office
The most popular services of the King County Recorder's Office are our online records search and marriage licensing. We are committed to the prompt and accurate recording of documents, such as real estate deeds, mortgages, plats, surveys, and registered land (Torrens), as well as their preservation and reproductions (copies). We are also responsible for collecting real estate excise taxes. Some of our services are available online, but for those who prefer to visit us in person, we're conveniently located at the King County Customer Service Center in Pioneer Square.
Join the Line with QLess
Spend less time in line at the King County Customer Service Center by joining the virtual queue with QLess. Here's how:
- Join the line or make an appointment with this link or by texting the phrase Join the CSC Line to 206-539-0413. You can also use the QLess smartphone app available on most app stores.
- Wait where you want - we'll send you texts about your place in line and when it's time to start heading toward our counter at the King County Customer Service Center.
- When it's your turn, we'll text you to let you know exactly where to go. If you're already at the Customer Service Center, you can watch the screens in the lobbies for your name and which counter to visit.
Our history
Between 1854 and 1969, the King County Auditor maintained all documents submitted for public record. In 1969, the recording functions of the County Auditor were taken over by the newly formed Recorder's Office. Over the years, the method of recording documents has evolved from a system of manual transcription in ledger books to digitally scanning and indexing the documents presented for recording.
