King County’s Industrial Waste Program recognized 59 local industrial facilities for their commitment to business practices that support the local economy while protecting regional water quality.

Story

Each year, the Industrial Waste Program, which operates as part of King County’s Wastewater Treatment Division, honors local facilities whose business practices contribute to regional pollution prevention goals.

Gold Awards were given to 37 businesses for meeting wastewater discharge regulations in 2019 without violation, and 22 facilities earned Silver Awards for having zero King County monitoring discharge violations in 2019.

Since 1969, the Industrial Waste Program has required industrial facilities to pretreat wastewater before discharging it into the sewer system to protect the King County’s conveyance and treatment systems, its workers, as well as the environment and public health.
