Summary

King County Wastewater Treatment crews today quickly stopped a leaking pipe in West Seattle that flooded a street just north of Lowman Beach Park. Flows from the leaking pipe were diverted to a second pipe and the affected streets were reopened.

Story

King County Wastewater Treatment workers today quickly stopped a leaking sewer pipe near the intersection of Beach Drive Southwest and Lincoln Park Way Southwest in West Seattle.

The leak overflowed into storm drains and through an outfall near Lowman Beach Park, located at 7017 Beach Dr. SW.

King County wastewater staff responding to the incident were able to quickly shut down the leaking pipe and divert flows to another pipe. Crews worked through the evening to clean the streets. The affected streets have reopened.

County staff posted caution signs along the water near the outfall, and water quality testing will begin at first light on Friday morning.

King County reported the overflow to health and regulatory agencies.
