Medicare Savings Program
Medicare Savings Programs help Medicare recipients pay for all or part of their Medicare premiums. Eligibility is based on those who meet income requirements. As of January 1, 2023, Washington State has eliminated the resource requirements for individuals and couples apply for the Medicare Savings Programs.
Income and resource limits
For any of the cost-sharing programs your resources (assets) must be under $8,400 for an individual and $12,600 for a couple:
- Qualified Medicare Beneficiary Program (QMB)
QMB pays your Part B Medicare premium, and the cost, if any, of your Part A premium. QMB also pays your Medicare co-payments and deductibles. To be eligible your income must be no more than:- $1,215 per month for one person, or
- $1,644 per month for a couple
- Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary Program (SLMB)
- $1,458 per month for one person, or
- $1,972 per month for a couple
- Qualified Individual (QI-1) Program
- $1,641 per month for one person, or
- $2,222 per month for a couple
