Local Services virtual town hall set for Vashon-Maury Island on Thursday, Oct. 22

Summary

Participants will hear directly from their local government leaders, including King County Councilmember Joe McDermott. Representatives from Local Services and other departments that serve the unincorporated areas will discuss how they are delivering services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Story

The event will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Users can join via Zoom at https://kingcounty.zoom.us/j/99334407319 (case-sensitive passcode is VOTE2020!).

They can also join via phone by calling 253-215-8782 and providing the meeting ID number: 993 3440 7319 (passcode 556041651).

The Vashon-Maury Island virtual meeting is one of 10 virtual Town Hall events that King County Local Services has scheduled for the unincorporated areas this year.

As with just about everything in 2020, Local Services had to think creatively about how to deliver these popular, usually in-person events while COVID-19 limits public gatherings. Last year, hundreds of residents turned out to hear directly from King County leaders and officials, explore government services, and more at these events in their communities.

Even though the pandemic has all but eliminated the in-person format, King County continues its commitment to inform and hear from the residents of the unincorporated areas.

“Maintaining this annual connection as a community couldn’t be more important in these challenging times,” McDermott said. “From the biennial budget process to important health and safety updates and direct access to County resources and decision-makers, I encourage as many residents of Vashon as possible can take some time out of their busy evenings to join the conversation.”

“We hear every day how the lives of unincorporated King County residents have changed because of this pandemic,” Local Services Director John Taylor said. “And while we had to adapt our jobs in the age of COVID-19, our dedication to inform and hear directly from our communities remains strong. This year will be logistically different, but the spirit of these events is the same.”

Residents should keep an eye on Local Services’ website and Facebook and Instagram pages, and/or sign up for email and Nextdoor alerts, to get updates about these events.
